DUE TO A COMPLETE AND TOTAL LACK OF TIME, THIS TIMELINE HAS NOT BEEN
UPDATED IN QUITE AWHILE SO
THERE IS ABOUT A YEAR'S GAP IN REPORTING.
SORRY!

2004

July 14, 2004 - Ben is born at 12:31 pm at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Florida.  He is 7 pounds, 4 ounces and 20 inches long.  He is beautiful and perfect!

July 15 - Approximately 10 am - Amy and Adam are called by A Bond of Love Adoption Agency in Sarasota, Florida and are informed that the birth mother has chosen them to adopt her son and that they need to get down to Florida to pick him up ASAP.  They are shocked and overjoyed at the same time.  Quite coincidentally they are already in Sarasota!  They tell them that Ben is being discharged at 4 pm and to be there to pick him up!  When they get to the hospital they are taken to the nursery where they meet their new son!  They go from the hospital to the adoption agency to sign papers then to Target to buy a car seat and some immediate essentials (since they were completely and totally unprepared!).  After that they hit the road for Pompano Beach where they will spend the next two weeks enjoying the blissful, sleepless life of new parents.  When Ben left the hospital he was down to only 7 pounds, 2 ounces.

July 16 - Ben is switched to Isomil Advance formula after vomiting every single sip of his Enfamil all over his new mother that morning.  Good move since he tolerates it beautifully.

July 17 - Ben finally receives an official name!  Until now he was actually technically named Baby Boy.  Benjamin Ryan Greenberg is officially chosen, and Ben doesn't seem to disagree with it.  Ben is named for Amy's Grandfather Bernie who was her mother's father.  He's named for a great man and a wonderful role model.

July 21 - Ben has his first post-birth doctor's appointment with Dr. Alan Louis in Tamarac, Florida for a check-up and a Florida state-mandated PKU test (which came back normal).  He is now 7 pounds, 3 ounces and almost 21 inches long.

July 28 - Ben heads home from Florida on American Airlines with his mom and dad.  Home sweet home!

July 29 - Ben has his first doctor's appointment in St. Louis with his new pediatrician Dr. Laird Vermont.  He's now 8 pounds, 2 ounces and 21 inches long.  He hates being weighed and measured and having his temperature taken under his arm.  He does a really great job of struggling with his mother to rip the thermometer out from underneath his arm.  Mom wins but not by much.  Later that night Grandpa Jack returns to St. Louis from Paris to see his first grandchild for the first time.  Even though Ben is asleep when he first arrives from the airport, he eventually wakes up and seems quite content with his first grandparent visit.

August 4 - Ben gets a visit from his "Uncle" Ted from Virginia who comes bearing gifts especially selected for him by "Aunt" Pam.  After he drives out of town in the Jeep Grand Cherokee he bought from Amy, Ben and Amy head back to the airport to pick up Uncle Andy who is visiting from New York.

August 5 - The parental rights of Ben's birth mother are legally terminated by the judge in Sarasota.

August 8 - Great Uncle Larry, Great Aunt Tina, Cousin Angie, Cousins Roz and Leonard and Uncle Andy's friend Josh Weinstein join Amy, Adam, Ben and Grandpa Jack for a welcome brunch for Ben.

August 13 - Grandma Carol, Grandpa Michael and Aunt Debra arrive from New Jersey for the weekend and their first visit with Ben.  They are excited to meet him, and the looks on their faces say it all.  Ben also attends his first official Girls' Night with his mom and her good friends Diane, Lynn and Michelle at Lynn's house.  He is the most popular boy at the party!

August 14 - Ben is one month old today!  YAY!  In addition to spending the day with his parents, grandparents and aunt, his Great Uncle Neil from Knoxville, Tennessee heads to town to attend Ben's Hebrew Naming the next day.  As soon as Great Uncle Neil picks him up, Ben instantly curls up and falls asleep on him, making them both very happy guys.

August 15 - Approximately 80 of Ben's nearest and dearest family members and friends join him for his Hebrew naming at Central Reform CongregationRabbi Susan Talve performs the beautiful ceremony (which Ben pretty much sleeps through), officially naming him Melech Netanel meaning King and Gift from God.  Melech was chosen because Grandma Nancy's Hebrew name was Malka which means Queen.  Netanel is an obvious choice, partially because of the meaning and partially because of the N, which is chosen for Grandma Nancy and his Great Grandfather Nathan, Grandpa Jack's father.  After the naming, a delicious lunch is served in the lobby of the temple.  18" pretzel letters spelling out Ben's name from Gus's Pretzels and custom wrapped chocolate bars made by Amy are highlights of the buffet table.

August 18 - Ben and Amy and Adam have their first post-placement visit with Hope Heller, PhD.  Three post placement visits are required by the state of Florida before papers can be filed for the adoption's finalization.

September 21 - Circumcision day!  After arriving at St. John's Hospital at 6 am, they are right on time taking Ben into the operating room at 7:30 am where Dr. Martin Bell does the deed.  Ben is amazing though and comes through everything like nothing even happened.
